Autumn

She was smart, world wise and tired of games but wanting to fall in love all the same. You may guess her name; I met her after a hot hectic summer of fresh beginnings, at a reception for some cause or another. Not that the cause wasn’t important to me, at the time, but that her eyes captured me and that overshadows any other memory I have of the evening. Still, she seemed surprised when I called her the following week, “I wasn’t sure you would” she said. The following weeks were a surge of warm greetings, meetings, late night talks, early morning walks and packing all the years we had never met into one season.
